I’ve always had a crippling affection for strong female protecting other females, to the point it borders on love.
what are those other two anime??

I now understand what it means to “love to hate” a character.
I was watching Utena (first time), and I realized that I had accidentally skipped an episode (17). I was pretty upset, because supposedly, it contained more development for Juri.
My relationship with Juri is weird. I like her character design, her voice, and the way she acts. I have had similar feelings about an ex that she has about Shiori. But, for some reason, I can’t connect with her, or truly sympathize with her. Maybe it’s like Asuka (Eva), in that she “has a wall in her heart.”
Shiori is, undoubtedly, the most evil and manipulative non-antagonist I’ve ever seen.
“Oh, what to do? Knowing my friend’s secret makes me so happy I can’t stand it! I can just see her alone and miserable, looking at my picture. Poor Jury. Poor, pathetic Jury.”
As with most of the characters in Evangelion, I feel like Shiori is a hated character because of her actions and thoughts, but also because she is a part of people that nobody wants to admit that they have inside of them.
I’m only on episode 22 right now, so I can’t be certain about the butterfly symbolism (apparently, the whole Shiori-Butterflies thing is more in-depth in the movie?), but we can easily assume that it has to do with change or metamorphosis. There’s obviously the skin-deep symbolism, in that Shiori has a sort of split personality. As her intro episode goes on, you can see her changing into her more sadistic side. But I feel as though there’s more to it than that.
I feel like, as soon as Shiori becomes a Black Rose Duelist, she gives in to that evil side of herself, and there is no way to change back. Once that side is shown, she can never revert back to Juri’s kind, sweet, and caring old friend.
And, best of all, Juri seems completely aware of this side of Shiori. She is still in love with her.
This relationship is one of the most unique, and, admittedly, weirdest, I’ve ever seen.
I hope nobody close to me reads this and thinks I’m also a manipulative bitch like Shiori, lolol.
